This year the World Beat Festival is celebrating Turtle Island; the indigenous peoples of North and South America! Come to Riverfront Park where you can experience the music, dance, food and traditions of over 60 nations and cultures. Join ODDS leadership on Zoom to share your feedback and experiences. All are welcome to attend these virtual meetings. Each month will have a different topic or focus. They meet every first Wednesday of the month from noon to 1 p.m. No registration required. These events are facilitated by the Partnership and Accessibility Resource Unit. A weekend filled with competition, camaraderie, celebration, and sportsmanship. The Summer State Games are the state championships for athletics (track & field), bocce, golf, and softball for Special Olympics athletes in Oregon. This is a great chance to cheer on your fellow athletes and watch some amazing games! All athletes and Unified partners train in their hometowns for a minimum of eight weeks and qualify to compete at the Summer State Games through regional-level competitions held around the state. This will take place in Corvallis Oregon, at OSU and surrounding venues. Delegates are housed in the campus dorms at Oregon State University. Special events will include Olympic Town festival areas, health screenings, Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg, the parade of athletes + opening ceremonies, a victory dance, and a Saturday night delegates dinner. People with disabilities are often excluded from conversations about emergency preparedness. This includes parents with disabilities who need to keep themselves and their children safe during a disaster. Join Brandeis University as they learn from Shari Myers and Melissa Marshall from the Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies. They will discuss emergency preparedness best practices for disabled parents and their families. Shari and Melissa will talk about building a realistic emergency kit, sheltering in place while disabled, and knowing your rights as a disabled person during a disaster. Attendees will also hear from two National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities' Advisory Board members, Judy Brown and Morénike Giwa-Onaiwu, about their personal experiences with emergency preparedness and disaster response. An annual health and safety fair, Riverfront Family Fest is free to attend and features 65 vendors and family-friendly activities focused on increasing the quality of life for children and parents in our community. Held at Salem's Riverfront Park the first Saturday of each August, Riverfront Family Fest is one of the largest child-friendly community events in Salem with nearly 4,000 parents and children each year. This health and safety resource fair is free to attend.
