  • Raising Self-Advocates Dinner (Salem)

    Join Creating Opportunities for a dinner conversation with a panel of extraordinary advocates at our Raising Self-Advocates Dinner! The panel of self-advocates will discuss their experiences growing up with a disability. Other discussion topics will include parenting teens, analyzing a pre-adulting checklist, the importance of nurturing your child’s advocacy skills at any age, and strategies to help you through life’s “ups and downs”.   • ASO’s 3rd Annual Autism Walk (Salem)

    Autism Society of Oregon (ASO) is holding their third annual autism walk in Salem. This will be a family-friendly, Autism-friendly event celebrating Autistic people and the Autism community, with proceeds to benefit ASO’s programs in the Salem Area! There will be a number of resource tables, including ISN, and opportunities to connect with others in the community. Registration this year is free!   • ODHS Legislative Session Updates (Virtual)

    The 2025 Oregon Legislative Session is January 21 through June 29. ODHS (Oregon Department of Human Services) will host regular meetings to update the I/DD community. Dates: January 22, February 12, February 26, March 12, March 26, April 9, April 23, May 14, May 28, June 11 and June 25 Time: Noon to 1 p.m. To attend: Register in advance using this link. After you register, Zoom will send you a confirmation email. It will have directions to join the meetings. ODHS wants everyone to feel welcome and safe. They will provide free support for you to participate. This includes American Sign Language, Spanish interpreter and live captioning.   • Emergency Preparedness at Home Training (Virtual)

    Creating Opportunities is putting together an online training, “Emergency Preparedness at Home”. This course features an unscripted (and funny) video of local youth sharing ideas on how to help your family plan for an emergency. Every participating family will receive a weather radio charging station- valued at $30. This online training will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 5:30PM – 7:30PM.   • How to Make a Budget and Save Class (Virtual)

    Join NW Access Fund for their monthly "Financial How-To’s for People with Disabilities". Learn how to budget, save, build credit, and protect yourself from fraud—all while keeping your benefits safe. The first class, How To Make a Budget & Save, will be held Tuesday, June 3. Click here to register. Learn the basics of budgeting and saving, including strategies to save without impacting asset restricted benefits. Leave knowing how to make a budget, what to do when you have limited resources, and with tips to overcome common spending pitfalls. Additional upcoming Classes Include: How to Make a Budget & Save - June 3rd, 12pm How to Build and Use Credit - June 10th, 12pm How to Protect Yourself from Fraud and Scams - June 17th, 12pm All classes are virtual and held in a supportive, inclusive environment.   • Community Conversations with ODDS (Virtual)

    Join ODDS leadership on Zoom to share your feedback and experiences. All are welcome to attend these virtual meetings. Each month will have a different topic or focus. They meet every first Wednesday of the month from noon to 1 p.m. No registration required. These events are facilitated by the new Partnership and Accessibility Resource Unit. Date: June 4th Time: noon to 1 p.m. How to attend: Use this link to open the Zoom meeting. They also invite you to send your questions or feedback ahead of time using the feedback form. You can fill it out in Arabic, English, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese. Deadline: Please send your questions by 8 a.m. on the Monday before the meeting. You don’t have to submit a question to attend the meeting. You can also ask new questions during the meeting. If they can’t answer your question during the meeting, a staff member will get back to you via email. If you want privacy, you can also ask them to respond by email.

  • Tsunami 101 (Lincoln City and Newport)

    Join a free, two-hour session of expert-driven discussion and practical steps you can take to stay safe before, during, and after a disaster! Lincoln City and Lincoln County Emergency Management has partnered with The Oregon Dept of Emergency Management (OEM), Oregon Dept of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) and the National Weather Service (NWS) to provide a comprehensive overview of earthquakes and tsunamis. This session will feature expert-led presentations on the science behind earthquakes and tsunamis, how alerts are triggered and broadcasted, and what you can do now to be better prepared when a disaster strikes. There will be time for questions and open discussion after the presentations—so bring your curiosity and take advantage of this opportunity to learn from the experts and connect with the people working to keep Oregon safe. There will be two sessions on this day: Driftwood Library Community Room, Lincoln City -  11am - 1pm Oregon Coast Community College Community Room, Newport, 6pm - 8pm
